Just like with most Poetry Slams around the world, Davie Village Poetry Slam is an ongoing event, every first Thursday, at the J Lounge in the Davie Village - the GLBTQ community center - on Vancouver's West End.

Unlike most slams with an open mic, poetry slam competition and featured poet intermission, we here at the "Flaming Slam", follow a different drummer, and include all that...and much more!

There's a little more flash in the Village - and our Slam Master and the current Mr. Gay Vancouver XXX (2010) will be hosting the proceeding...with a bevy of Drag Performers, Guest DJs, alternative Feature Poets...and more than a few surprises with a few extra entertainment inches.

After all, sometimes a girl needs a little something extra! .

Poetry Slam International rules state that all poetry slams competitions require that all poets must perform a poem of their own, of any style, within 3 minutes without the aid of props or music.

5 randomly selected audience members will become judges and are given score cards to score the poet from zero to 10. The poets with the highest scores after 2 rounds of poems are the winners of cash prizes. Every slam has 10-12 spots open for poets with the top 5 going on to the 2nd round.
